Conceived in the early 1920’s as the movie industry was entering it’s golden era, The Biltmore was built in 18-months, and invited it’s first guests in the fall of 1923. But the real spectacle awaits behind the doors, where a combination of Smeraldi’s artwork alongside the lavish use of crystal, marble, tapestries, gold, and cast bronze elevates it from palace-homage, to truly grand in its own right. A building this impressive deserved an impressive opening night, and The Biltmore’s opening gala did not disappoint.

All the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. Rendezvous Court has appeared onscreen countless times over the years. It was there that Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) memorably – and rather lewdly - checks in to the fictional “Beverly Palm Hotel” under the guise of being a Rolling Stone reporter in Beverly Hills Cop. The court has also been utilized in episodes of Revenge, Mad Men, NCIS, Glee and 90210, as well as in the movies Blow and Daredevil. Join us in our ornate Rendezvous Court to experience our beloved afternoon tea. Sip champagne, choose from a variety of our specialty tea selection, and enjoy a tiered-tower filled with sweets and savories - ALMOST too beautiful to eat.
Reminiscent of Michelangelo, Smeraldi spent nearly a year on scaffolding painting ceilings in the hotel. He saw it as his greatest work, and even requested to return later in life to refine some of the murals. With so many architectural details to take in, it’s easy to miss some of the highlights.

Read on for ten areas of the hotel that have lit up both the big and small screens. One of the most famous ghosts that people claim to see in the lobby of the Biltmore and on the tenth and eleventh floors is the ghost of Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia. Following her murder, it has been reported that her spirit enjoyed spending time at the Biltmore. The Millennium Biltmore Hotel has an endless collection of heritage features that have earned it a rightful place as an Elite Member of the Historic Hotels of America. After studying with some of Italy’s master painters, Smeraldi went on to paint frescoes in the White House, Grand Central Station, and the Vatican. Giovanni ‘John B.’ Smeraldi was the perfect choice to bring old-world elegance to the hotel.
Please note the restaurant and bar are closed until further notice and no room service is available at this time. I feel that this iconic hotel is a must-stay at least once in your life for everyone who visits LA. It is a step back into old LA, and perfectly situated for visiting everything in downtown, with easy metro to everywhere else. I cannot say enough about how jaw- dropping the ambience and decor, and the staff flawless.
The hotel is wonderfull, a lot of movies was filmed there, the loccation in downtown it s perfecty. The location, is so close to amazing places like the city hall, the park, Walt Disney concert hall, etc. A movie buff's dream, with the corridors proudly displaying photos of movies which have been filmed there. I had a warm welcome after a long flight, friendly staff looked after me, and I got upgraded to a corner room with views over Pershing Square. During World War II, the Biltmore served as a military rest and recreation facility, with the entire second floor equipped with cots for military personnel on leave.
The current lobby at the hotel's Grand Avenue entrance still has its original travertine walls and oak paneling as well as the large artificial skylighted ceiling, reflected in the custom carpet below. Biltmore HouseYour Biltmore House admission invites you to experience three grand floors and the once-bustling basement of America’s Largest Home®. Its greatest connection to Tinseltown, though, is its long history as a filming location. Virtually every square inch of the place has appeared on screen at some point, which is not surprising being that the hotel is one of the most beautiful spaces in L.A. The Biltmore is also incredibly versatile - parts of it have masked as everything from the White House (on Scandal) to a Las Vegas casino (Beverly Hills, 90210) and a boxing facility (Rocky III).
